Argentine is a huge and wide land. Big areas are mostly flat so it isn't such as difficult to ride a bike there. But one of the biggest enemies there for a cyclist, mostly in the Patagonian area, is the wind. There it can reached up to 120km an hour and this can you blow out directly in the opposite direction. Also the large distances between some towns, again in Patagonia, can be very large. So take care of enough water and food when you going there.
The Andes in the south are not so high and besides the winds you can cross them very easy. There is one 1300 high pass to the Chilean side that you can reached from Bariloche over Villa la Angostura. The Andes in the north are getting very high, some of them over 4000 m. So if you like to cross the boarder there, first get a good acclimatization.
The traffic for South American circumstances are quiet relaxed. Sometimes also you will find some paved shoulders so if you take them your ride is more calm. But anyhow, don't fail to care for your life and don't expect the considerateness that you may be expect from your country.
Best travel time
In Argentina you will find also 4 seasons only that they are opposite to yours, those who's living in the North. Also you will find in this huge country a variety of climates, from could as like subpolar in the south over subtropical in the northeast and dry and hot in the northwest. But mostly the wintertime e.g. in the lower areas you wont find snow and at this time the wind is a little more calm. Maybe if you want to cross the border to Chile in the South or over higher passes in the North you have to wait some days after a snowfall.
Mostly of the year the northwest is very hot and in the summer time there, around Christmas, the temperature can rise up to 50°C (120°F). Outside the towns mostly you won't find a shadow place for a rest, so take plenty of water with you.
As you see, there is no predominated best travel time.
Spare parts
The spare part supply in bigger cities is quiet good. You will find mostly of the stuff that is necessary to make at least basic repairs. Don't expect to get the best high quality stuff or some exotic parts such as Rohloff Speedhub or Magura hydraulic brakes. Also if you riding outside in the country, far away from some spare part support, best is to take a minimum of spare parts with you. Also if you riding a 28' bike to some tubes and tires with you because this size isn't very commune in Argentina or the whole continent there.
